Destiny 2
Destiny 2, a free-to-play first-person shooter developed by Bungie, initially launched in 2017 as a paid game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. Transitioning to a free-to-play model titled New Light on October 1, 2019, it expanded to Stadia, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S by December 2020.
The game, originally published by Activision until December 2018, marked a shift in the franchise's publishing rights to Bungie. Set in a "mythic science fiction" realm, Destiny 2 combines multiplayer and role-playing elements, dividing activities into player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game types.
Guardians, the player characters, wield the power of Light to safeguard Earth's last safe city against alien threats and the looming Darkness. The narrative unfolds through expansions, with significant Year Four changes removing content into the Destiny Content Vault.
Year Four commenced with Beyond Light, introducing the power of Darkness and setting the stage for subsequent expansions—The Witch Queen in 2022, Lightfall in 2023, and a concluding chapter, The Final Shape.
Destiny 2 received favorable reviews, particularly praising improvements in storytelling, gameplay, visuals, exploration, multiplayer features, and public events. Despite some divided opinions on weapon recategorization and specific modes, the game garnered awards and nominations at events like The Game Awards 2017 and Game Critics Awards.

Destiny 2 Gameplay
Destiny 2, much like its forerunner, blends the elements of a first-person shooter with role-playing and massively multiplayer online (MMO) features. In the original Destiny, a dynamic matchmaking system facilitated on-the-fly connections, limiting player communication to those "matched" by the game.
Interaction with others involved using the console's messaging system until an in-game text chat was later introduced. Destiny 2 introduces a refined matchmaking approach called "Guided Games," offering players the opportunity to locate clans seeking additional members for raids.
The game maintains the division of activities into player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game modes, a structure reminiscent of the original Destiny. This setup ensures a diverse gaming experience with varied challenges and engagements across both cooperative and competitive aspects.
Destiny 2 strives to enhance the player's journey by optimizing communication and matchmaking, building on the foundations laid by its predecessor while introducing new features to foster a richer and more immersive gameplay experience.
Destiny 2 Development And Release
Mentions of a Destiny sequel surfaced in November 2014, just two months after the release of the original game, when Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg revealed ongoing work on future expansions and the next full game. The original schedule outlined plans for disc-based sequels every two years until 2019, with substantial downloadable expansions in between.
Originally slated for a September 2016 launch, Bungie confirmed on February 11, 2016, that the full sequel would instead release in 2017. In December 2016, Bungie welcomed Vicarious Visions and Activision to the development team.
Addressing a departure from the original, rumors circulated that Destiny 2 would be available on Microsoft Windows, a confirmation made on March 30, 2017. Worldwide releases occurred on September 6, 2017, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on October 24 for Microsoft Windows.
Various editions, including Collector's, Limited, and Digital Deluxe, accompanied the standard base game. A pre-order bonus, the Expansion Pass, offered early access to the first two expansions. Sony's exclusivity agreement continued, providing PlayStation 4 with exclusive content until late 2018, concluding with the Shadowkeep expansion in October 2019.
