The player decides to help and uses their own magic called "Dreamlight" with Merlin's guidance to clear away the Night Thorns and discover their old house hidden within. With the help of villagers and Royal Tools, they break the spell of eternal night, clear away more Night Thorns, and unlock doors to other realms where villagers fled.
They help these characters, restore Dreamlight Valley, and find out that they were the valley's former ruler. They also learn that the Night Thorns and The Forgetting were caused by a dark being called the Forgotten, who turns out to be their inner child corrupted by negative emotions. The player helps the Forgotten, closes a dangerous rift, and brings harmony back to Dreamlight Valley.
