Nightingale Pre-Launch Update
HUD Updates
In case you missed our Developer Update video, we announced that we made some changes to our UI based on feedback and observations from the Server Stress Test. Some key changes:
Additional UI Updates
And a couple of UI-adjascent updates:
We’ll continue to refine and update the UI as we move into Early Access, so please let us know how you find the updated functionality.
Controller Support
As we quickly adapted both the front-end UI presentation and consolidate various backend functionality in just under a week, it had an impact on controller functionality. The game can be played with a controller for the Early Access launch, but may require the very occasional keyboard or mouse input. We will work to integrate full controller support as soon as possible in a near future update.
While it’s not in its final form, please feel free to provide feedback on it throughout Early Access.
We’ve updated our Accessibility page and store page to reflect these changes.
FSR3 Removal
After reviewing crash data from the Server Stress Test, a significant number of them seemed to point to FSR3 integrations, whether or not users had the setting turned on.
To ensure better stability, we temporarily have removed FSR3 from the launch build and are working with various external and internal teams to see if we can implement it, or an older FSR version, in future updates.
We’ve added an update to our Performance Expectation blog to reflect this change.
For those who wish to use XeSS or DLSS, these will still be available at launch.
Nightingale Gameplay
Nightingale offers an immersive and diverse gameplay experience set in a post-apocalyptic world. After a catastrophic event on Earth, interdimensional travelers seek refuge in procedurally generated realms. Players take on the role of one of these travelers, navigating the enchanting faerie realm of Nightingale. Drawing inspiration from the Victorian era and incorporating elements of gaslamp fantasy and steampunk aesthetics, Nightingale presents a visually stunning and unique setting.
Survival is key in Nightingale, as players must scavenge for food, rest to regain stamina, and gather resources for crafting essential tools. Crafting ranges from simple items like bedrolls, which provide rest without the need for shelter, to more advanced creations such as umbrellas that allow players to glide through the air like Mary Poppins. Combat plays a significant role, with players utilizing melee weapons or firearms to fend off hostile creatures. However, not all creatures are aggressive, and some will only retaliate when provoked.
The game also introduces non-player characters, including iconic literary figures like Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde, who offer quests and aid players during fights and resource gathering. Nightingale offers a variety of gameplay options, including dungeon crawls and raid-style combats, ensuring there is always something exciting to explore.
Traveling between realms is made possible through dedicated servers, allowing players to venture into different biomes such as deserts, woodlands, and swamps. The world customization aspect adds depth, as players can use cards to tailor the realm to their preferences and determine the available resources.
