Dragon Quest Heroes 2 gameplay

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is a thrilling video game that combines the hack-and-slash combat style of Koei Tecmo's Dynasty Warriors with the rich lore, characters, and monsters of Square Enix's Dragon Quest series. Unlike other Omega Force titles, this game heavily emphasizes RPG elements, making it an exciting and immersive experience for fans of both franchises.

One of the most significant changes in Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is its approach to world exploration. Instead of the linear levels typical of Dynasty Warriors, players can move their party around a world map, visit towns, and initiate battle stages that resemble dungeons. Along the way, players may encounter random monster battles that break up the pace between locations. This makes exploration and combat feel like a more organic and seamless experience, rather than just a series of set pieces.

To make the world of Dragon Quest Heroes 2 feel even more alive, the game includes weather effects that can affect the party's status. Additionally, special ingredients and treasure boxes can be found across the world map, encouraging players to explore and seek out hidden treasures.

Characters in Dragon Quest Heroes 2 can dash to wherever they please, but some areas may be initially blocked off until the player progresses with the main story. As players advance through the game's narrative, they can unlock Zoomstones on the world map. These Zoomstones serve as monuments that allow the party to instantly warp to previously visited locations, making backtracking and exploration even more convenient.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 Guide

In Dragon Quest each character has their own unique abilities, spells, and weapons, making them suitable for different play styles and strategies.

1. Warrior

The Warrior is a Sword and Board type character who uses a sword and shield as their primary weapons. They are the standard character and the cover art character for the game. The Twin and Single Sword both come with decent skills and spells that players can get used to using. Some of the useful skills for Twin Swords include Zap, Frost Fangs, and Cold Fission.

2. Martial Artist

The Martial Artist is a class that specializes in hand-to-hand combat. It is recommended to avoid the staff and leave it for the Gladiator class. Instead, the Claw is a much better option, as it offers the perfect combination of Ruff and Alena with the less wild Claw moveset but with the cloning and multi-hitting madness of Alena.

3. Mage/Priest

The Mage/Priest class is not recommended and should be avoided entirely, as it is best left for the Sage class. Players should primarily level this class for the extra MP and Magic Might it provides for their sage.

4. Thief

The Thief class is only given to players to enable them to open locked chests. Players can level it for stats but should otherwise avoid it.

5. Gladiator

The Gladiator is the most broken class in the game, offering some of the best skills and two of the best passive abilities in the game. Players can attack through shields and gain power with fewer party members. Each weapon shares Blind Man's Biff, an anime-style attack where players quickly dash forward through the enemy, who then takes massive damage after a delay. Hurt Converter is another useful skill that uses some MP and grants lifesteal.

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 tips and tricks

  1. Find your favorite class early: At the beginning of the game, you'll need to choose either Lazarel or Teresa to be your main hero. It's important to note that whoever you choose will be a permanent member of your party for the rest of the game. Each hero has their own unique fighting style, so it's a good idea to try both out and see which one you prefer. If you're not happy with your choice, you can change it later on by talking to the priest inside the inn.

  2. Dodge, dodge, and dodge some more: Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is not your typical hack-and-slash game. You can't just charge into a crowd of enemies and hope to win. You'll need to learn how to dodge incoming attacks to survive. Not all characters have a dodge roll, so be sure to experiment with different characters to find the ones that work best for you.

  3. Switch it up to survive: With a simple tap of L2, you can switch between your party members during combat. This can be a lifesaver when you're facing tough enemies. The computer-controlled characters are good at dodging enemy attacks, so switching to them can give you a break while you recover.

  4. Always bring a healer: Healing is crucial in Dragon Quest Heroes 2. Waiting for defeated enemies to drop healing items is not ideal, so it's best to have a party member who has access to a healing spell or ability. This will help keep you and your party alive during tough battles.

  5. Save your bonus balls for the right time: Bonus balls are rare items that temporarily increase the amount of experience you earn from defeating monsters. It's tempting to use them as soon as you find them, but it's better to save them for later when you're facing tougher enemies.

  6. Keep an eye out for metal slimes: Metal slimes are rare enemies that give you a huge amount of experience when defeated. If you're lucky enough to find one, make sure you take it down as quickly as possible.

  7. Never ignore the martial arts master: The martial arts master is an important NPC who can help you increase your proficiency with different fighting styles. Every time you deal damage to an enemy, your proficiency with that style increases. This is true for every party member, so be sure to visit the martial arts master regularly to increase your skills.
