Escape From Tarkov Gameplay

Escape from Tarkov is a tough and realistic shooter game that mixes elements from multiplayer games. It has three modes: PMC raids online, Scav raids, and an offline mode. In raids, players can go solo or team up, starting on one side of different maps. Their goal is to reach an extraction point on the opposite side, fighting others on the way. Players can find weapons, gear, and armor, stashing loot for later use or selling it in a market.

There's minimal on-screen info and when players die in a raid, they lose everything. Insuring gear can help get it back. Scav raids give random gear, have cooldowns, and start mid-game. Raids can last 15 to 45 minutes and may have up to 14 players.

Outside raids, players sell unwanted stuff, trade, and complete quests from traders. Upgrading the "Hideout" offers bonuses like reduced cooldowns, extra experience, and crafting abilities.

The gameplay resembles military sims like ARMA. Players customize weapons part by part, wear military gear, and control movement and crouching. Checking ammo needs manual inspection. The game has a health system for injuries, needing specific medical supplies. Realistic ballistics with bullet behavior, including ricochets and penetration, are part of the game. Finding items takes time, each revealed individually. Energy and hydration levels must be watched during a raid.

Escape From Tarkov Plot

Escape from Tarkov happens in the fictional city of Tarkov within a special economic zone in Russia from 2015 to 2026. The city's broken down due to political scandals and corporate collapse. Warring factions control sections of the city, with aggressive locals, called Scavs in charge of some areas.

Players have nine maps to explore, each representing different parts of the abandoned city. These maps include places like an industrial park, a shopping mall, secret research facilities, military bases, and more. Additional maps are in development, including Suburbs, Terminal, and Town. There's a plan for an open-world option that combines all locations.

Players can join two PMC factions: USEC and BEAR. USEC focuses on Western firearms, while BEAR prefers Russian ones, each with its own advantages. The main enemies are the Scavs, divided into various types.

Normal Scavs have basic gear, while Scav Raiders and Bosses are tougher, smarter, and have better equipment. Rogues and Cultists are specific Scav groups with their own behaviors and gear. The game's developers occasionally change spawn rates and where these factions appear for special events.

Escape From Tarkov Development

Escape from Tarkov's development started back in 2012. The lead developer, Nikita Buyanov, and his team gained experience while working on a previous game called Contract Wars at Absolutsoft. Both games are part of what the developers call the Russia-2028 universe. Some team members also have real-world military experience, with one being a former Spetsnaz operator.

The developers made the game more authentic by recording actual weapon sounds in deserted warehouses. Throughout the beta phase, they regularly updated the game with new stuff like features, maps, characters, and equipment. Big updates sometimes come with a "wipe," resetting everyone's progress in the game.

However, there have been problems with cheaters and people trading in-game currency for real money, which breaks the game rules. In 2020, the developers took action against this by warning players about trading pricey items with others in-game. This led to confusion among players, questioning what's allowed in fair item trading.
