Griffen attended Agua Fria High School in Arizona and was a standout athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and track and field. At USC, Griffen was a two-time All-Pac-10 selection and a consensus All-American in 2009. He finished his college career with 81 tackles, 20 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 36 games.
Griffen was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
