F-Zero 99

F-Zero 99 is a new online racing game with battle royale features made by Nintendo. They shared news about the game on September 14, 2023, and it's available for free to Nintendo Switch Online (NSO) subscribers. This is the first F-Zero game since 2004, and it's the fourth 99-style battle royale game on NSO.

The game is based on the 1990 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) game F-Zero. In "F-Zero 99," you race against 98 other players online. The goal is to stay in the race longer than others and finish it. Each player has a power meter, and if it runs out due to damage, they're out of the race. You can knock out opponents with low power to replenish your own meter. Collecting Super Sparks on the tracks lets you access a higher road called the Skyway, giving you a speed boost to pass other players for a short time.

F-Zero 99 Gameplay

F-Zero 99 is a game that's like Pac-Man 99, Super Mario Bros. 35, and Tetris 99. It takes the classic F-Zero game and turns it into a battle royale. The graphics, cars, and tracks are from the old SNES game, giving it a nostalgic feel. It borrows the speed boost idea from F-Zero X.

In the game, you race against 98 real players, aiming to be the last one standing and finish first. Your car has an energy meter for health and speed boosts. If it runs out, your car explodes, and you're out, but you can refill it in a pit zone. Collecting Super Sparks lets you access the Skyway, a floating road, for a quick speed boost. As the race goes on, slower bumper cars join, making it trickier. You can use a spin move to push away these cars and others.

The main mode is an online race with up to 99 players. There are other modes like Grand Prix (a series of five races), Team Battle, Pro Tracks (harder races), and Practice. Grand Prix needs tickets earned in other modes, and points go on a weekly leaderboard. You can unlock new colors and designs by completing goals.
