Fall Guys Gameplay

"Fall Guys" features up to 40 players competing in shows with battle royale-style gameplay. Players control jellybean-like figures and navigate a three-dimensional playing field using moves like jumping, grabbing/climbing, or diving. The goal is to qualify for subsequent rounds by completing randomly selected mini-games with various challenges.

Mini-games in "Fall Guys" include race rounds to reach the finish line, survival rounds to avoid being knocked off into slime, hunt rounds to collect items, logic rounds to use memory, team rounds to win against other teams, invisibeans rounds with invisible teams, and final rounds where remaining players compete in a final match. The winner is either the last player standing or the first to finish the final round.

Players can use the in-game currency, "Kudos," to purchase cosmetics like nameplates, patterns, and colors for their character. Kudos can be earned by completing challenges, the fame pass, or in events. Winning a match awards players with crowns, which were a premium currency but now only count towards Crown Rank. Any unused Crowns were converted into Kudos when the game became free-to-play.

Fall Guys Release Date

"Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" was announced at E3 in June 2019 and was released on August 4, 2020, for PlayStation 4 and Windows. The game features up to 40 players competing in shows with battle royale-style gameplay, controlling jellybean-like figures in a three-dimensional playing field. Players must qualify for subsequent rounds by completing randomly selected mini-games with various challenges.

The game's success led to updates for the first season and the release of a medieval-themed second season on October 8, 2020. In August 2020, Bilibili announced a mobile version for Android and iOS exclusive to China. The game was later made free-to-play on June 21, 2022, with releases on additional platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with cross-platform play support.

In March 2021, Mediatonic and its parent company were bought by Epic Games, leading to a focus on cross-platform compatibility and updates. The game transitioned to a free-to-play system with the release on Xbox and Nintendo Switch, eliminating the need for console subscription services like PlayStation Plus. Players who had purchased the game before the transition received a "Legacy Pack" with cosmetics and rewards.

In November 2022, Mediatonic announced a new feature called Vaulting to temporarily remove some rounds for stability. In February 2023, they announced longer seasons and a level editor called Creative. Since Season 3, Jukio Kallio no longer composes the game's music. Plans for future features include Sonic the Hedgehog-style rolling, wall jumping, and a power-up feature.

On August 16, 2023, it was announced that Seasons would be phased out in favor of more frequent updates, while Fame Passes would remain. Show-bucks prices were increased in certain regions due to inflation. Despite mass layoffs at Epic Games, Fall Guys and Rocket League will not be discontinued, and Epic will continue to invest in them.
