Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV is Square Enix's online game in the famous Final Fantasy series. In this game, players go on adventures in the land of Hydaelyn, exploring the different regions of Eorzea. Originally released on PC in 2010, the game underwent a big revamp and was re-released in 2013 alongside a version for the PS3.

The game follows a classic class system with Tanks, Healers, and Damage Dealers (DPS). You can team up with others using a dungeon finder and party finder system. There are small 8-person raids, bigger 24-person raids, and various PvP modes for some player-versus-player action.

Since its revamp, known as "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn," the game has had four major expansions - Heavensward in 2015, Stormblood in 2017, Shadowbringers in 2019, and the most recent one, Endwalker, which launched on December 7, 2021.

They've just announced the fifth big expansion, Dawntrail, during the North American Final Fantasy Fan Fest in 2023. It's set to come out in the summer of 2024.

Final Fantasy XIV Plot

In the world of Final Fantasy XIV, there's a place called Hydaelyn, and it's a made-up world with lots of different landscapes spread across various continents. The main focus is on a region called Eorzea, which has four big cities: Gridania in a dense forest, Ul'dah in a trade-centric desert, Limsa Lominsa on a seafaring island, and Ishgard up in snowy mountains.

Eorzea used to be part of an alliance, but Ishgard left because of the threat from the Garlean Empire, which has taken control of other continents. There are also different groups, like the Sylphs and Kobolds, and places like Sharlayan, a city of scholars, and Ala Mhigo, taken over by the Garlean Empire.

The history of Eorzea is split into good times called "Astral" eras and bad times called "Umbral" eras caused by big disasters. The most recent disaster, the Seventh Umbral Calamity, happened when the Garlean Empire tried to crash a weaponized moon called Dalamud onto Eorzea. Even though adventurers stopped their plan, it unleashed the ancient dragon Bahamut, causing a huge catastrophe. A powerful mage named Louisoix sacrificed himself to trap Bahamut, and the adventurers were sent into the future to be there when they were needed again. At the same time, the Garlean Empire was dealing with its own problems as their emperor got sick.
