Final Fantasy XIV GamePlay

Final Fantasy XIV is an MMORPG that offers players a persistent world where they can engage with both the environment and each other. Within the game, players have the opportunity to create and personalize their own characters, including aspects such as name, race, gender, facial features, and starting class. Initially, players can choose to be a Disciple of War or Magic, while Disciples of the Hand and Land are not available at the beginning.

To ensure smooth communication and gameplay experience, players are advised to select a game server in their region, as data centers are located in supported regions like North America, Europe, and Japan. The game incorporates a vast library of automatically translated terms and phrases, enabling players of different languages to communicate effectively and interact with one another.

Interface

The user interface and game controls in Final Fantasy XIV are consistent across PC and home console versions. Players have the flexibility to use a keyboard, mouse, or game controller, with wireless or USB keyboard and mouse support on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. On PC, navigation is done through drag-and-drop windows, while the PlayStation version utilizes an XrossMediaBar-like interface for easy access to menus, maps, logs, and configurations.

The head-up display includes a message log, party status menu, mini-map, and action bar, all of which can be customized. The PC version allows point-and-click or keyboard selection of commands and macros from the action bar, while the home console versions utilize the Cross Hotbar, enabling quick access to commands through shoulder buttons and directional pad or face buttons. PC players using controllers can also use this interface.

Character Progression

In Final Fantasy XIV, character progression is achieved by gaining experience points (EXP) that lead to leveling up and improved statistics for better performance in battles. Experience points can be earned through quests, instanced dungeons, Full Active Time Events (FATE), and defeating monsters in the game world. Quests, including the main scenario questline, offer specific tasks and reward items and EXP while advancing the game's overarching plot.

Guildleves are repeatable quests that can be undertaken using level allowances, which are limited but regenerate over time. Instanced dungeons are timed locations with objectives, requiring players to form parties for entry. Some dungeons cater to lower-level players for quick EXP gain, while others offer rare items, equipment, and currency for experienced players.

The Duty Roulette randomly assigns players to unlocked instanced dungeons and grants an additional EXP bonus upon completion, scaling with the player's level. FATE events allow a large number of players to participate, involving battles with powerful monsters, defense missions, wildlife hunts, and fortress assaults. The Hunting Log provides specific enemy targets for bonus EXP rewards when defeated. Once reaching the maximum level, character progression shifts to improving equipment through endgame dungeons, crafting, raids, primal battles, and elite mark hunts.

In addition to player versus environment (PvE) challenges, Final Fantasy XIV offers three forms of player versus player (PvP) combat. The Wolves Den, a four-versus-four arena, was replaced by Crystalline Conflict in patch 6.1. Crystalline Conflict features two teams of five competing to control and push a crystal to each team's goal point. Frontlines is a large battleground where up to 24 players form teams based on allegiance to one of three Grand Companies.

Teams strive to reach the target number of points to win, with multiple modes and different locations and rulesets available. Frontlines represent organized military exercises among the three nations, aiming to gain dominance over regions rich in magical artifacts. Rival Wings is a battle arena mode where players manipulate minion waves and pilot mechs to destroy enemy objectives, adding another layer of PvP gameplay.

Battles and party system

In Final Fantasy XIV, battles form the core of party play, where players engage in combat using physical attacks, weapon skills, and magical abilities. Most battle content requires specific party sizes, such as four players for dungeons and eight players for boss fights. The "Duty Finder" is an automated matchmaking feature that forms parties across different servers.

The "Party Finder" is a bulletin board where players can recruit members from other servers for various content. Parties consist of traditional roles like tanks, healers, and damage dealers, requiring teamwork and strategy to overcome powerful enemies. "Limit Breaks" are special abilities that can be unleashed when party members excel in their roles.

Players can form and join Free Companies, player-run guilds affiliated with one of the three Grand Companies of Eorzea. Free Company members enjoy benefits such as access to a shared company chest, a private chat channel, and Company Actions that provide gameplay bonuses for a limited time. Free Companies can collectively purchase and decorate houses, utilize gardening systems, train Chocobo companions, embark on airship expeditions, and acquire private rooms. Linkshells, on the other hand, are private chat channels that allow players to belong to multiple groups alongside their Free Company.

Armoury and job system

In Final Fantasy XIV, the Armoury System ties a character's class to their equipped weapon, enabling players to freely switch classes by changing weapons. There are four disciplines: Disciples of War for physical combat, Disciples of Magic for magic users, Disciples of the Hand for crafting and item repair, and Disciples of the Land for resource gathering. The Job System expands on the Armoury System for Disciples of War and Magic, granting access to unique skills, magic, weapons, and armor exclusive to specific jobs associated with each class. These jobs, inspired by classic Final Fantasy character roles, are particularly suited for party-based combat.

Final Fantasy XIV Wiki

Final Fantasy XIV is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Square Enix. It was released worldwide in August 2013 as a replacement for the unsuccessful 2010 version. Directed and produced by Naoki Yoshida, the game was initially launched for PlayStation 3 and Windows, with later support for PlayStation 4, OS X, and PlayStation 5. Set in the fictional land of Eorzea, the story takes place five years after the events of the original 2010 release.

The player character escapes the devastation caused by the primal dragon Bahamut and time travels to the future. As Eorzea rebuilds, players must confront the imminent threat of invasion from the Garlean Empire. The original version of the game faced significant criticism and failure, leading to a new development team led by Yoshida. They revamped the game with improved gameplay, graphics, and story, resulting in the release of "Version 2.0." The original version was shut down in 2012, and an alpha test for Version 2.0 followed.
