Fingernails Movie Ending Explained

In the ending of Fingernails things get pretty intense for Anna. She and her boyfriend, Ryan, take this love test, and they score a perfect 100%. But then, Anna secretly tests her compatibility with Amir, her co-worker, and they only score 50%. This is tough for Anna because she realizes she's more into Amir than Ryan. After a night together, Anna decides to bare her feelings to Amir and starts to remove all her fingernails, which is kind of symbolic.

It's like she's rejecting the whole idea that a computer can decide who you should love. The fate of Anna, Ryan, and Amir is left kind of uncertain, but what comes through is that Anna is willing to take a chance on love, even if it's risky and unknown, rather than settling for something that doesn't truly excite her. It's a bold move that says love is more about the journey and less about what a test tells you.

Fingernails Plot

Some time before the events of the movie, there's a test where you give up one fingernail to check if a couple is really in love. Anna gets a job at the Love Institute, a company created by Duncan, which helps couples get stronger by doing exercises so they can pass this test. She works as an instructor there. Anna doesn't tell her boyfriend Ryan about her new job, even though they passed the test before. Anna follows Amir, another instructor, and they become friends while helping couples. Even though Amir says he and his girlfriend Natasha passed the test, it's clear he likes Anna.

Amir does something surprising to help a nervous client, tearing out his own fingernail. Anna secretly tests it with hers, and the result shows that one of them has one-sided love. Anna talks Ryan into taking the test again, and they pass. She tells Amir about her discovery, and he admits he has feelings for her. Later that night, Anna and Amir sleep together, and she starts to have doubts about staying with Ryan. In a bold move, Anna removes the rest of her fingernails.
