Fortnite Update 28.01 Patch Notes
Fortnite is getting a new update 28.01 just before Christmas. Although it's not a big update with new content, Epic Games will have a period of server downtime. The downtime is scheduled to start at 9 am GMT UK time, with matchmaking disabled around 8:30 am GMT.
Epic Games announced this on social media, specifying that Battle Royale, Creative, LEGO Fortnite, Rocket Racing, and Fortnite Festival will be offline during this period. The news was shared on X (formerly Twitter): "New patch incoming! Tomorrow's patch addresses key areas before our next content update. Downtime starts at 4:00 AM ET, with matchmaking disabled shortly beforehand."
While the update doesn't bring new content, it focuses on bug fixes and gameplay improvements. The blog post mentions smoother gameplay with more fluid and detailed animations. Epic explains that players on all platforms will experience Motion Matching and Procedural Layering in Fortnite Battle Royale, enhancing animations for actions like transitioning from walking to running and using weapons.
Fortnite
Fortnite is an online video game made by Epic Games and came out in 2017. It has three different versions: Fortnite Battle Royale, where up to 100 players compete to be the last one standing; Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative game where up to four players fight off zombie-like creatures and build defenses; and Fortnite Creative, where players can create their own worlds and battle areas. Save the World and Battle Royale started as early access titles in 2017, while Creative was released on December 6, 2018.
Fortnite Battle Royale became hugely popular, drawing over 125 million players in less than a year and making hundreds of millions of dollars each month. The whole Fortnite game earned $9 billion in revenue by December 2019. You can play Save the World on macOS, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. Battle Royale and Creative are available on those platforms, plus Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch. The game also came out with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Fortnite Gameplay
Fortnite: Save the World throws players into a cooperative, player-versus-environment experience. Teams of four work together on diverse missions in a post-apocalyptic world, where a mysterious storm has wiped out 98% of the population, leaving the survivors fending off zombie-like "husks."
As commanders of home base shelters, players collect resources, rescue survivors, and defend critical equipment to gather storm data or push it back. Completing missions rewards players with in-game items like hero characters, weapon schematics, and survivors, all upgradeable through earned experience.
Fortnite Battle Royale shifts the focus to player-versus-player action, hosting up to 100 players in a fight for survival. Players drop from a flying "Battle Bus," scavenging for weapons, resources, and vehicles while avoiding the shrinking safe area due to an encroaching toxic storm. Tightening spaces force player encounters, and the last one standing or squad remaining claims victory.
Fortnite Creative introduces a sandbox mode, granting players the freedom to spawn Battle Royale items on a personal island, fostering creativity in designing battle arenas, race courses, and more. Lego Fortnite, a survival sandbox, features Lego Minifig characters collecting materials, constructing buildings, crafting weapons, and battling monsters.
