The FREDDY Awards, organized by the State Theatre, holds a unique distinction as the only high school musical awards program in the United States that produces a live television show. The telecast has garnered numerous accolades in the field of broadcasting, including multiple Mid-Atlantic EMMY awards in 2005, 2011, and 2019.

In 2008, the FREDDY program became the subject of a feature-length documentary called "Most Valuable Players," produced by Canyon Back Films in Los Angeles. This documentary, released in 2010, was included in Oprah Winfrey Network's (OWN) documentary film club, which premiered in 2011. The Freddy Awards 2023 were held on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at 7 PM at the State Theatre Center for the Arts
