Sand Grease Pupa are tiny baby Quicksand Eels which are scattered across the map for travelers to pick them for upgrading their characters. You’ll need 168 Sand Grease Pupa to ascend a character to its maximum level of 90 fully, and they take two days to respawn.

Sand Grease Pupa is a local specialty material that can only be found in the Sumeru region. They are exclusive materials to be found in the Deserts of Sumeru. Many of them are found in the tunnels underneath the desert too. Searching for Sand Grease Pupa is a difficult process since they are generally scattered. They can be found above the ground near Wadi Al-Majuj and to the south and southeast of The Sands of Three Canals. But the bulk of them are under the sands themselves near the new Stekh Wenut boss fight, below The Sand of Al-Azif and Dunes of Steel.

Sand Grease Pupa Farming Route
Sand Grease Pupa is the most needed Ascension Material if you were able to pull Alhaitham or Dehya from the limited-time banner. Sand Grease Pupas were introduced in patch 3.4, and are a local specialty in Sumeru. Even though it is limited to a subregion, there are a total of 74 items available for farming in Sumeru. To collect all the pupas follow the 8 routes mentioned below:
Route 1
All Players must Teleport to the nearby teleport point of the Setekh Wenut boss and should head north into the wenut tunnels. The Sand grease pupa is spread around the battle arena, so players do not have to face the opponent to collect the Sand Grease Pupas in the area.
Route 2
The Second farming route can be found to the southwest of the sandstorm. Players can teleport to the northeastern Safhe Shantranj Waypoint, and move northeast to reach the Sand Grease Pupa in groups.
Route 3
The Third route is very close to the sandstorm, to the north of it. To go there, players must teleport to the eastern Waypoint in The Sands of Three Canals and move south. The players must also be aware of the common Wenut hunts that happen in that area which can damage the characters if they are not shielded or evade their attack radius.
Route 4
The fourth Sand Grease Pupa farming route in the Desert of Hadramaveth. It is located to the west of the sandstorm. Players should teleport to the northeastern Qusayr Al-Inkhida Waypoint, and should then head through the tunnel southwest of their location and continue to proceed until they reach the Pupas.
Route 5
The fifth route requires players to go to Passage of Ghoul’s northeastern Waypoint, near the Sands of Al-Azif, and head west.
Route 6
The sixth one takes players to the Wounded Shin Valley’s northeastern Waypoint, which is west of the sandstorm, and then east from the starting point. Players must teleport to the northeastern Qusayr Al-Inkhida Waypoint and then start to move south to get the pupas.
Route 7
For the seventh route of sand grease pupa teleport to the Genshin Impact’s Statue of the Seven near the Tanit Camps and then head north, you will find the cluster slightly in the northeast direction. There is also a Wenut in this area which players must be aware of.
Route 8
The final route is near Safhe Shatranj. Players can travel to the Teleport Waypoint west to Safhe Shatranj and go east by circling around the canyon to find the Sand Grease Pupas which are on the other side
