Hitman Blood Money

Hitman: Blood Money, created by IO Interactive and published by Eidos Interactive in 2006, is a successful stealth video game available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. Serving as the fourth installment in the Hitman series and a sequel to Hitman: Contracts (2004), the game's plot revolves around the genetically engineered assassin, Agent 47.

Tasked with dismantling a rival organization called the Franchise, threatening his employers, the International Contract Agency (ICA), Agent 47 confronts challenges to prevent the Franchise from obtaining cloning technology. The narrative unfolds through a frame story, recounting 47's life and contracts, narrated by a former FBI director to a journalist.

Achieving both critical acclaim and commercial success, Blood Money sold over 2.1 million copies, earning it a revered status among gamers and critics. The game, alongside its predecessors, received high-definition ports in the Hitman HD Trilogy (2013), and 2019 saw 4K remastered releases for Blood Money and Hitman: Absolution as part of the Hitman HD Enhanced Collection on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Hitman Blood Money Gameplay

In Hitman: Blood Money, players take on the role of Agent 47, the series protagonist, tasked with assassinating various targets to complete missions. The game, played from a third-person perspective, presents challenges such as armed guards, security checkpoints, and witnesses to impede Agent 47's progress. The player navigates through levels using a map, employing various methods to eliminate targets quietly and without unnecessary violence.

New features in Blood Money include climbing obstacles, improved combat, using non-player characters as shields, and the ability to upgrade weapons and equipment. Each level offers opportunities for the target's death to appear accidental, such as tampering with a grill or rigging a chandelier.

The game introduces a notoriety system, influencing NPCs' ability to identify Agent 47 based on success or captured incidents on surveillance. Completing missions cleanly earns money, affecting upgrades and bribes to lower notoriety. Mission results, notoriety levels, weapon accuracy, and other details are summarized in newspaper articles after each mission. Blood Money also enhances the melee weapons system, allowing lethal throws and introducing rival assassins.

Hitman Blood Money Plot

American journalist Rick Henderson goes to the estate of former FBI Director Jack Cayne, hoping to interview him about an attack at the White House or his career. Cayne, however, reveals that the interview was a trick, inviting Rick to learn about a bigger story - the details of cloned hitman Agent 47, working for the International Contract Agency (ICA). Despite skepticism about 47 being considered an urban myth, Rick listens to Cayne's story.

Documents provided by Cayne disclose 47's contracts, including work in the U.S., Chile, and France. The ICA is targeted by a rival group, the Franchise, forcing Diana to close it down. Cayne talks about a White House attack involving 47, orchestrated by the Franchise. Unbeknownst to Cayne, 47 is aware of the Franchise's connection to a political organization seeking to monopolize cloning technology.

To dismantle the Franchise, Diana fakes betraying 47, injecting him with a serum to mimic death. In a clever move, Diana provides an antidote during 47's "cremation," enabling him to eliminate the Franchise and preserve his anonymity. Diana reopens the ICA, and 47 moves on to his next contract.
