Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game that was developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label in 2023. It takes place in the Wizarding World universe during the late 1800s, a century before the events in the Harry Potter novels. Hogwarts Legacy gameplay
Hogwarts Legacy is a third-person action role-playing game set in the Wizarding World franchise, where players explore Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and its surrounding areas, including Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest. The game features familiar locations and elements from the franchise, such as attending classes and choosing one of the four Hogwarts Houses - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house offers unique quests and access to a corresponding common room. As players progress, they earn experience points by completing challenges in combat, quests, exploration, and field guide pages, which allow them to level up and upgrade spells, talents, and abilities. The game also features environmental customization, where players can personalize the Room of Requirement and care for magical beasts in a separate Vivarium. Players establish relationships with NPCs, who can become companions, expand their abilities, and offer unique dialogue options as players learn their stories. The game's visuals change to match the seasons and feature changing music based on the location of the player character. The player character learns to cast spells, brew potions, and master combat abilities, developing their unique combat style as they progress. While attending classes is part of the plot development, spell learning is not a scheduled gameplay element.
