How Do Upgrades Work in Lords of the Fallen?
Melee and Ranged Weapons
In Lords of the Fallen, you'll encounter various weapons like swords and bows. To upgrade them, seek out Gerlinde the blacksmith. First, free her from Pilgrim's Perch's prison cell. Then, locate her at Skyrest, and interact with her to access the "Upgrade Equipment" option. Upgrades require Vigor (earned from enemies) and a special material called Deralium, with costs increasing for higher upgrade levels.
Runes for Enhanced Abilities
You can boost certain weapon abilities by attaching runes, obtainable from Gerlinde. Only +1 weapons can have runes, and each weapon has specific slots for them. Select the "Socket Runes" option when interacting with Gerlinde to see available runes for a chosen weapon slot.

Enhancing Umbral Eyes
Similar to runes, you can slot Umbral Eyes into your Umbral Lamp. These provide additional benefits related to the Umbral realm or lamp functions. Each Umbral Eye has effects for both the Main and Secondary Sockets. As you upgrade the lamp, you'll unlock the Secondary Socket. Hunt for Umbral Eyes hidden in the Umbral realm for these bonuses.
Sanguinarix Healing Tool Upgrades
Pieta, located by the Skyrest Vestige, handles Sanguinarix upgrades. Offer Saintly Quintessence items to enhance your Sanguinarix's healing effectiveness and charge capacity. Different upgrade levels require varying units of Saintly Quintessence, which can be found throughout the game, often in the Umbral realm.

At the start, you get to make your own character and choose from nine different types. The game world is really big, much bigger than the previous one from 2014. There are two worlds on top of each other. One is called Axiom, where living things are, and the other is Umbral, a place for the dead. Even though they're in the same space, you can only get to certain places by going between the two worlds.
If you die in Axiom, you'll go to Umbral and have to come back to Axiom to get back what you lost. But if you die in Umbral, you'll start again from the last place you saved, and you'll lose any experience points you didn't use. There aren't many places to save your progress in each area, but you can make your own using special materials you find in Umbral from defeated monsters.

In Lords of the Fallen, you can upgrade melee weapons like swords and ranged options such as bows, along with shields and armor.
First, free Gerlinde from a prison cell in Pilgrim's Perch. Then, locate her at Skyrest. She will be your go-to for equipment upgrades.
Upgrades require Vigor, obtained mainly by defeating enemies, and a special upgrade material called Deralium. The higher the upgrade level, the more Deralium it will require.
There are four tiers of Deralium: Small Deralium (up to +2), Regular Deralium (up to +5), Large Deralium (up to +9), and Chunk Deralium (+10).
