Metroid Prime

Developed by Retro Studios and published by Nintendo for GameCube, Metroid Prime is an action-adventure game that marks the fifth installment in the Metroid franchise and the first to use 3D computer graphics and a first-person perspective. It was initially released in North America in November 2002, followed by Japan and Europe the next year, alongside the Game Boy Advance game Metroid Fusion. The release of Prime and Fusion marked the return of the Metroid series after an eight-year hiatus since the release of Super Metroid in 1994.

Metroid Prime was succeeded by two sequels, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (2004) and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (2007), and a fourth installment, Metroid Prime 4, was announced in 2017. In 2009, an improved version of the original game was launched for the Wii in Japan and as part of the Metroid Prime: Trilogy compilation globally. A remastered high-definition edition of the game was released on the Nintendo Switch in 2023.

How Long to Beat Metroid Prime Remastered?

If you concentrate on the primary goals, Metroid Prime takes approximately 13 and a half hours to complete. However, if you're a completionist who wants to explore every aspect of the game, it will probably take you around 17 hours to achieve 100% completion. Set between the original Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus, the game sees players assume the role of bounty hunter Samus Aran as she battles the Space Pirates and their biological experiments on the planet Tallon IV.

The game was developed collaboratively between Retro in Austin, Texas, and Nintendo employees from Japan, including producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Kensuke Tanabe. The idea for the project was suggested by Miyamoto himself after visiting Retro's headquarters in 2000. As exploration is emphasized over combat, Nintendo marketed the game as a "first-person adventure" rather than a first-person shooter.

How Long is Metroid Prime Remastered?

Most players will spend anywhere from 10 to 20 hours completing Metroid Prime 1, depending on their problem-solving skills. It's important to keep in mind that Metroid Prime 2 is nearly twice as long as the first game. In Metroid Prime, Samus is on a mission to locate twelve Chozo Artifacts, which will grant her access to the Phazon meteor impact crater on Tallon IV. To achieve this, players must navigate through various areas, collecting power-ups that allow Samus to explore new regions.

For instance, the Varia Suit protects her armor from high temperatures in volcanic regions. Some power-ups are obtained after defeating bosses, and there is a specific order to collect items - certain areas are inaccessible without finding specific Beams to unlock doors or discovering new weapons to defeat bosses. Exploring is encouraged as players can find upgrades such as ammunition packs and health boosts.

Metroid Prime Remastered Review

For two decades, Metroid Prime has been highly recommended by many, albeit with one caveat: the controls require some time to get accustomed to. However, with the exceptional updates found in Metroid Prime Remastered, that caveat is no longer necessary. The remastered version of the game is considered one of the greatest first-person shooters ever made, featuring modern controls and significantly improved models and textures.

It serves as a superb example of how to honor a beloved classic while bringing it up to modern standards. Playing it again feels almost entirely new, providing the same fresh sensation as the remakes of Dead Space, Resident Evil 2, and 3, despite not being a drastic overhaul itself. It's a marked improvement from the underwhelming treatment of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on the Switch.

Metroid Prime Remastered Length

Focusing solely on the main objectives, it takes approximately 13.5 hours to finish Metroid Prime. However, for those who desire to uncover every element of the game, it could take up to 17 hours to achieve full completion. The game takes place between the events of the original Metroid and Metroid II: Return of Samus and features players taking on the role of bounty hunter Samus Aran, fighting against the Space Pirates and their bioengineering experiments on the planet Tallon IV.

Metroid Prime is a first-person action-adventure video game that features a vast open-world environment that players can explore freely. The game includes a variety of weapons and upgrades that players can use to defeat enemies and overcome obstacles. It also features puzzle-solving elements that require players to use their wits to progress through the game. Additionally, the game has a scan visor that players can use to scan their surroundings, uncover lore, and gain insights into the game's story. The game's graphics and atmospheric soundtrack have also been praised for their immersive qualities.
