Along the way, the player learns they were the valley's former ruler and that the Forgetting was caused by a dark being called the Forgotten, who turns out to be the player's inner child. The player helps the Forgotten overcome negative emotions, preventing a rift that could destroy the valley, and everyone forgives and welcomes the Forgotten back to Dreamlight Valley.
