Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the first-person shooter video game by Sledgehammer Games and Activision, was fully released on November 10, 2023. It marks the twentieth installment in the Call of Duty series and serves as the third chapter in the revamped Modern Warfare series.
Following the events of 2022's Modern Warfare II, the game's storyline revolves around the multinational special operations unit Task Force 141 as they pursue the Russian ultranationalist and terrorist Vladimir Makarov, who plans to instigate a third World War.
The game, available on platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, maintains the realistic, modern setting of its predecessors. In Modern Warfare 3, accessing the Dark Aether Rift involves completing the "Bad Signal" story mission within Act 4. This mission allows players to briefly venture into the Dark Aether.
Finding Key Items
After completing the Bad Signal mission, players must gather four key items to reopen the Dark Aether Rift. These items are Locked Diary, Pill Bottle, Surveillance Camera, and Dog Collar which need to be placed on pedestals near the Dark Aether Rift entrance.

Opening the Portal
To activate the Dark Aether Rift, players require Sigils. The first Sigil is obtained upon the initial entry into the Dark Aether, while subsequent ones can be acquired by completing contracts in the Red Zone. Placing the Sigil on the portal's pillar initiates a voting process among team members. Once the required consensus is reached, the team will be transported to the Dark Aether Rift.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's campaign story takes place after the events of Modern Warfare II. It features fictional locations like Verdansk, Kastovia, and Urzikstan. The main villain is Ultranationalist terrorist Vladimir Makarov. Task Force 141, led by characters like Captain John Price, Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley, Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick, and Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavish, are the main heroes. Players will also take on roles in Makarov's private military company, Konni Group.
The Zombies story happened in Urzikstan in 2021, after the events of Modern Warfare (2019) and almost 40 years after Black Ops Cold War. It includes characters like Victor Zakhaev, a Russian arms dealer, and Sergei Ravenov, a former Spetsnaz captain with experience in dealing with zombies. New characters are introduced too, like Jack Fletcher from the private military company Terminus Outcomes, and Selma Greene, who leads Operation Deadbolt, a CIA plan formed after the Cold War outbreak.

Modern Warfare III will play a lot like its predecessor and other Call of Duty games. It brings back features like slide canceling. The campaign offers both linear missions and 'Open Combat Missions,' giving players more freedom in how they tackle objectives. In multiplayer, there will be all sixteen maps from Modern Warfare 2 at launch.
Players can vote for maps in lobbies, and there will be a bit more health for a longer time to kill. The 'red dot' minimap is back, allowing players to spot enemies on their radar when they shoot without a suppressor. Classic modes like 'Kill Confirmed' and 'Hardpoint' are returning, along with a new mode called 'Cutthroat.' Ground War and War mode are making a comeback too.

Up to 24 players will team up on a big map called Urzikstan. They'll face off against zombies and AI-controlled enemies, completing objectives, collecting loot, and extracting items.
Instead of rounds, the map is divided into 'zones' with varying difficulty levels. After 45 minutes, an 'Aether Storm' starts, giving players 15 minutes to get out with their loot. This can be carried into the next match. It includes familiar elements like weapon purchases, special drinks, and mystery boxes. Story quests will also be part of the mode, advancing the narrative.
