Palworld

Palworld, a new game by the Japanese company Pocket Pair, is an exciting mix of action, adventure, survival, and monster-taming. In this game, you find yourself in a vast open world filled with adorable creature companions called "Pals."

These Pals can be battled and captured to aid you in building bases, traveling, and fighting enemies. Moreover, you can assign Pals to your bases, where they can complete tasks automatically.

The game allows for both solo play and online multiplayer, accommodating up to 32 players on a single server. Palworld was first announced in 2021 and became available for early access in January 2024 on Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

What sets Palworld apart is its humorous concept, where players use firearms and equip Pals with them, leading to it being nicknamed "Pokémon with guns." Additionally, the game introduces the idea of using creatures for food or putting them to work in mines and factories, adding an extra layer of interest.

Despite its positive reception for engaging gameplay and content, Palworld faced criticism for relying too heavily on shock humor and incorporating designs and features that weren't considered very original.

Following its release, Palworld gained immense popularity, selling a remarkable eight million units in its first six days of early access. On Steam, it attracted over two million concurrent players, making it the second most-played game on the platform.

Palworld Gameplay

In Palworld, you get to be a character you can change and explore the Palpagos Islands in a cool third-person view. The game is mostly about staying alive – you need to make sure your character eats, makes simple tools, gathers things, and sets up bases that work like quick-travel spots. As you play more, you unlock new stuff like weapons, buildings, and decorations through a tech tree.

The islands are filled with over 100 creatures called Pals. You have to fight them directly and catch them using "Pal Spheres." You can also get Pals from a black market run by non-player characters or trade with other players.

Once you have Pals, you can bring them into fights or have them help with tasks at your bases, like gathering, crafting, or cooking, depending on the kind of Pal. Each Pal has a special skill that makes them useful, either as weapons or mounts.

Palworld introduces different groups as the bad guys, such as the Rayne Syndicate criminal gang, the Free Pal Alliance freedom fighters, the Brothers of the Eternal Pyre fanatics, the Palpagos Islands Defense Force acting like the police, and the Pal Genetic Research Unit. These groups, led by strong Pal trainers in towers, are the big challenges in the game.

You'll also run into human characters connected to these groups, walking around or fighting each other. If you mess up, like commit a crime against humans, you'll get a wanted level. Then, other humans and troopers from the defense force will try to catch or fight you until you escape or beat them.
