Although the game teaches how to fuse items with your shield for added utility, it doesn't offer a shield that can withstand many hits. After completing the tutorial and returning to Hyrule, you will need to travel to the docks beneath Hyrule Castle. To get there early on in the game, it's best to complete some story missions first.
