Redfall is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by Arkane Studios Austin and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game will offer both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes, and is set in the fictional town of Redfall, Massachusetts, which has been overrun by vampires following a failed scientific experiment. Players will take on the role of one of four survivors, each with unique abilities, and fight against both vampires and human enemies.
Redfall's four playable characters include Devinder Crousley, a cryptozoologist inventor; Layla Ellison, a telekinetic student; Remi de la Rosa, a combat engineer; and Jacob Boyer, a supernatural former US military special forces sniper veteran and former PMC operator of Bellwether Security. The game promises to continue Arkane's tradition of innovative gameplay mechanics and deep worldbuilding, while also offering a fresh experience different from their previous titles.
The game was officially announced during the Xbox and Bethesda E3 2021 showcase, and is being developed by Arkane Studios at their Austin, Texas locations. The game's release was originally scheduled for 2022, but was delayed to the first half of 2023. Redfall will be released on May 2, 2023, but the PlayStation 5 version was cancelled following Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda Softworks.
How to Play Redfall Early?
It was not possible to play Redfall before its official release date on May 2, 2023. Players had to wait for the scheduled release to access the game. To ensure a faster start, players who pre-purchased Redfall could pre-load the game ahead of time by installing its contents early. This minimized the need for additional downloads upon release.
Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass were also able to pre-install Redfall, eliminating the need for a pre-purchase. Regardless, players were advised to ensure a stable internet connection before the game's release, as Redfall required players to be always online, even when playing alone. A reliable internet connection was necessary for both downloading the game and playing it.

It was surprising, given that Bethesda had announced a simultaneous release time for the game.
However, it only took a few hours for Xbox to notice that some players were using this exploit, and it temporarily shut down the servers. Some users who posted later in the thread reported this. It is unclear how long the players were able to access Redfall, but it seems to be at least an hour or so based on the timing of their posts.
When does Redfall Go Live?
Redfall had a midnight release for Xbox Series consoles, but the launch timings were scattered on PCs, depending on the region. To clear up any confusion that players might have had with the game's release timings on PC, Arkane Studios provided a dedicated chart showcasing release times for all regions.
The Redfall release date was on May 2nd, 2023. The game was playable on Xbox Game Pass across Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Redfall was not released on Xbox One, but players were still able to access the game on that console through the cloud.
Players were able to preload Redfall on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. If you were an Xbox Game Pass member, you could go to the Xbox Game Pass app, find the game, and then select the "Pre-Install" option. On PC, you had to use the official Xbox App to do the same thing.
Redfall's download size weighed in at around 77GB on Xbox Series X, while the Xbox Series S version was about 40GB. On PC, players needed roughly 103GB to pre-install Redfall. These download sizes could have changed prior to release if Bethesda decided to push out pre-launch updates.
