The franchise originated with the release of the first film in 2001, which was based on the 1998 Vibe magazine article titled "Racer X" written by Ken Li. The screenplay for the film was written by Gary Scott Thompson, Erik Bergquist, and David Ayer. The inaugural movie marked the beginning of a tetralogy that focused on the theme of illegal street racing. The original tetralogy concluded with the film Fast & Furious in 2009.

As the series progressed, it underwent a transition and started incorporating heists and espionage into its storyline. This shift occurred with the release of Fast Five in 2011, which was followed by five subsequent sequels that continued to explore the world of heists and spying. The most recent film in the franchise, titled Fast X, was released on May 19, 2023.

Universal Pictures expanded the Fast & Furious series by producing a spin-off film called Hobbs & Shaw, which was released in 2019. This spin-off focused on the characters of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, respectively. Additionally, DreamWorks Animation, a subsidiary of Universal, created a six-season animated streaming television series called Fast & Furious Spy Racers, which aired from 2019 to 2021.

'Fast and Furious' Plot 2023

In the latest installment of the Fast & Furious series, Dominic Toretto and his team find themselves in a high-stakes mission involving a computer chip heist in Rome, Italy. Dom decides to stay behind with his wife Letty Ortiz and their son Brian "Little B" Marcos while the rest of the team travels to Rome. However, their plans take an unexpected turn when Cipher, a notorious criminal, arrives at Dom's home seeking his help.

Cipher reveals that Dante Reyes, the son of a drug lord, has turned against her and is using her crew to target Dom as revenge for his father's death and the loss of his family's fortune. While Cipher is taken into custody by Agent Little Nobody, Dom and Letty learn that there is no official mission in Rome. They realize that Dante has set them up and now their team is in danger.

Meanwhile, in Rome, Dante locks Dom's team in a truck rigged with a metal ball bomb. Dom and Letty give chase as the bomb is released through the city streets. Dom manages to push the bomb into the Tiber River, minimizing the damage caused. Unfortunately, Letty is arrested, and Agent Aimes, who has assumed leadership in the absence of Mr. Nobody, believes Dom and his team are responsible for the bombing. A bounty is placed on their heads, leading to a manhunt.

Back in Los Angeles, Dom's estranged brother Jakob comes to the rescue and saves Little B from a kidnapping attempt. Jakob takes Little B to a secret location in Portugal, where they wait for Dom. Tess, Mr. Nobody's daughter, uses the advanced surveillance system known as God's Eye to locate Dom in Naples. She informs him that Dante is in Rio de Janeiro.

In Rio, Dom confronts Dante and agrees to a high-stakes race. During the race, Dante reveals that he has planted bombs in the cars of Dom's friend Diogo and Isabel Neves, the sister of Little B's late mother. Unable to reach Diogo in time, Dom crashes into Isabel's car to dislodge the bomb, saving her while Diogo's car explodes, resulting in his death. Tess secretly visits Letty, who is being held in an Agency black site, and together they plan their escape.

Meanwhile, in London, the rest of Dom's team seeks the help of Deckard Shaw, a former adversary turned ally. Deckard agrees to assist them after learning that his mother is also a fugitive for aiding Dom in the past. Aimes tracks down and arrests Dom, but their team is ambushed by Dante's mercenaries. Aimes joins forces with Dom to fight them off, while Tess arrives to provide assistance. However, Dante reveals that he has kidnapped Isabel, leaving Dom no choice but to save her.

During their escape, Dante captures Little B, leaving Dom cornered by mercenaries. In a selfless act, Jakob sacrifices himself to take out the mercenaries, allowing Dom to rescue his son. The team reunites in Portugal, but Dante continues to pose a threat. As they are cornered between two drone-operated semi-trailers, Aimes is revealed to be a double agent working for Dante and shoots down the plane carrying Dom's team.
