The daughter lets the stranger, who is wearing a hazmat suit, into the facility and hides her from Mother. The stranger tells the daughter that there is no contamination and warns her that robots like Mother hunt down humans. The daughter performs surgery on the stranger's injured hip, and they bond.
Mother discovers the stranger and disarms her, but at Daughter's pleading, she takes her to the infirmary. The stranger refuses Mother's help and tells Daughter that she survived by hiding with others in a mine. The mother administers an exam involving psychological testing, which the daughter passes.
