In The Tall Grass

In 2019, Vincenzo Natali wrote and directed the Canadian supernatural horror drama film "In the Tall Grass," which is an adaptation of the 2012 novella of the same name by Stephen King and Joe Hill. The movie stars Harrison Gilbertson, Laysla De Oliveira, Avery Whitted, Will Buie Jr., Rachel Wilson, and Patrick Wilson. The project was first conceptualized in early 2015, but it was not until May 2018 that streaming service Netflix announced that they had acquired the film rights and hired Natali to direct and adapt the screenplay. Filming took place during the summer of 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. The film made its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 20, 2019, and was later released on Netflix on October 4, 2019. While the film received mixed reviews from critics, many praised the performances, atmosphere, and faithfulness to the source material, but some criticized the inconsistent tone and dialogue.

In The Tall Grass Ending explained

In the finale of In the Tall Grass, Becky manages to escape from Russ Hombolt by stabbing him in the eye. As she is surrounded by the figures from the grass, they take her to the Black Rock of the Redeemer, where she suffers a miscarriage in the mud in front of it. After losing consciousness, Becky wakes up to find Cal feeding her something, which turns out to be pieces of her own baby. Moreover, it's not Cal but Ross Humboldt who is feeding her. Travis and Tobin arrive in the clearing to find Becky near death and Travis is attacked by Ross. However, Becky stops Ross from forcing Tobin to touch the rock and removes his remaining eye with her necklace. Travis then kills Ross by strangling him with a bundle of grass, but Becky dies from the trauma of her miscarriage. In the end, realizing that he is also dying, Travis touches the rock to understand the grass, and he uses this knowledge to transport Tobin back to the church.

In the final scene of In the Tall Grass, Tobin steps out of the church and realizes that he has traveled back in time to before Becky and Cal entered the grass. He warns them not to enter and shows Becky the bloodied necklace that Travis gave him. Though Becky senses that something is off, she doesn't realize that Tobin has gone back in time. She suggests they take Tobin to the police station in the nearby town and decides to keep her baby instead of giving it up for adoption. Becky and Cal leave while Travis succumbs to his injury and is consumed by the grass.

The Tall Grass Plot

The plot of the movie centers around siblings Cal and Becky, with Becky being heavily pregnant, as they embark on a road trip through a desolate area. They come across a church and hear the voice of a young boy calling out for help from within a nearby field of tall grass. Despite their better judgment, they enter the grass to find the boy and become disoriented and trapped. As they wander, they are tormented by an unknown entity that slowly drives them insane. Along the way, they encounter Tobin and his father Ross, who are both enigmatic and suspicious. The siblings eventually make their way to a large rock in the middle of the field, which is said to reveal the secrets of the Tall Grass when touched. The film's horror is heavily steeped in symbolism, as is common in Stephen King's work, as the characters confront otherworldly forces that force them to confront fundamental truths about themselves. As the story progresses, Travis, the father of Becky's child, also enters the Tall Grass in search of the siblings, and it becomes clear that time operates differently within the field.
