Mr. Kannan passed away on Tuesday morning in Madurai. R Dinesh, President Designate of CII and Executive Vice Chairman of TVS Supply Chain Solutions Ltd described T Kannan as a visionary leader and an industry icon who made significant contributions to the growth of the textile industry, especially in Tamil Nadu and across the country.

Mr. Kannan strongly believed in the comprehensive development of all districts for the prosperity of the state. He played a pivotal role in driving initiatives for the development of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu through CII. Kamal Bali, Chairman of CII SR, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Mr. Kannan, highlighting his positive impact on society and industry as a whole.  Mr. Kannan's close association and active engagement with the government resulted in favorable policies that greatly benefited the industry.

Dr. R Nandini, Deputy Chairperson of CII SR, acknowledged Mr. Kannan's leadership in the Southern Region and his mentorship of young leaders, encouraging their active participation in CII initiatives. Throughout his two decades of involvement with CII, Mr. Kannan led significant initiatives and committees, contributing to the organization's progress.

Industrialist Karumuttu Kannan Passed Away

Renowned industrialist Karumuttu T. Kannan passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at his residence in Madurai. Aged 70, he had been unwell for a short period. He is survived by his wife Uma Kannan, daughters Visalakshi and Radha, and son Hari Thiagarajan. Karumuttu T. Kannan held the esteemed position of Fit Person (Thakkar) at the renowned Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple since 2005.

As the chairman of Thiagarajar Mills Madurai and president of Thiagarajar Colleges, he had long-standing associations with academic and industrial organizations such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Southern India Mills Association. Mr. Kannan served as a member of the State Planning Commission and was actively involved in numerous universities in Tamil Nadu, including Anna University Chennai.

He was honored with the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar award by the Tamil Nadu government in recognition of his contributions to education and social service. In 2022, he was appointed as a member of the High-Level Advisory Committee to the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department by the Tamil Nadu government.
