Although voicemail may be considered outdated due to the prevalence of other messaging forms, such as email and SMS, it is still in use by many people. Personally, some individuals use it to avoid talking to people they do not like. However, if your voicemail unexpectedly stops working, there are options available to you. Before resorting to talking to your mother, you can try several things to fix the issue.

Why are Voicemail Not Showing Up in My Iphone?

Sometimes, a software malfunction can be resolved by simply restarting the device or the problematic program. If you have attempted the troubleshooting steps thus far, and your voicemail is still not functioning, try turning off your iPhone and then turning it back on after a minute or closing the Phone app and reopening it. The Phone app features Visual Voicemail, which is accessible through specific carriers and displays a list of your voicemail messages. You can pick and choose which messages to play and delete without listening to all of them. Additionally, a badge displayed on the Voicemail icon indicates the number of unheard messages.

Another feature, Voicemail Transcription (currently in beta and available only in select countries or regions), shows your voicemail messages transcribed into text. However, this feature is limited to voicemails received in English on iPhones running iOS 10 or newer versions. The quality of transcription is dependent on the recording quality of the voicemail

Check your voicemail on iPhone

• Visual Voicemail shows a list of your messages.
• You can choose which ones to play and delete without listening to all of them.
• A badge on the Voicemail icon indicates the number of unheard messages.
• Voicemail transcription (beta) shows your messages transcribed into text.
• Transcription is limited to voicemails in English received on your iPhone with iOS 10 or later.
• Transcription depends on the quality of the recording.
• Voicemail, Visual Voicemail, and Voicemail transcription are available from select carriers in select countries or regions.

Set up voicemail

• The first time you tap Voicemail, you’re asked to create a voicemail password and record your voicemail greeting.
• Tap Voicemail, then tap Set Up Now.
• Create a voicemail password.
• Choose a greeting—Default or Custom; if you choose Custom, you can record a new greeting.

Play, share, or delete a voicemail message

• To play a message, tap Voicemail, then tap a message and tap the Play button.
• To share a message, tap the Share button.
• To delete a message, tap the Delete button.
• Messages are saved until you delete them or your carrier erases them.
• In some countries or regions, deleted messages may be permanently erased by your carrier.
• Your voice messages may also be deleted if you change your SIM card.
• To recover a deleted message, tap Deleted Messages, tap the message, then tap Undelete.
• Siri can also play a voicemail message.

Check your messages when Visual Voicemail isn’t available

• On your iPhone, tap Voicemail, then follow the instructions.
• On another phone, dial your own mobile number, press * or # (depending on your carrier) to bypass your greeting, then enter your voicemail password.

Change your voicemail settings

• To change your greeting, tap Voicemail, then tap Greeting.
• To change your voicemail password, go to Settings > Phone > Change Voicemail Password, then enter the new password.
• If you forgot your voicemail password, contact your wireless carrier.
• To change the alert for new voicemail, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics or Settings > Sounds.
