On January 12, 2018, Fanchini announced that she would have to miss the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics to undergo cancer treatment. In the 2019 season, she was preparing to make a comeback to the World Cup, but during training for the Killington Super-G, she fell on the Superstar track and sustained a hand injury that resulted in a finger fracture and a knee injury that involved a left knee bruise and a proximal fibula fracture. This injury forced her to return to Italy and prevented her from competing in the season.
