She went on to appear in Period of Adjustment and Walk on the Wild Side in 1962, playing a prostitute in the latter and earning a Golden Globe award for Most Promising Newcomer. In 1963, Fonda starred in "Sunday in New York", receiving praise from Newsday as "the loveliest and most gifted of all our new young actresses." Nevertheless, not everyone was enamoured with her acting; that same year, the Harvard Lampoon named her the "Year's Worst Actress" for her work in The Chapman Report. Fonda's subsequent movies, Joy House and Circle of Love (both 1964), were filmed in France. In the latter, she became one of the first American film stars to appear nude in a foreign production. Despite being offered the coveted role of Lara in Doctor Zhivago, Fonda declined because she was unwilling to spend nine months on location.
