In 1989, during a midnight shift change in Raniganj Coalfields, a blast causes water leakage in one mine section. Despite evacuation orders, 60+ miners in the Behra section remain, unaware due to a deaf section leader. Manager Jaswant Singh Gill, noticing the emergency, offers to help in the rescue.
Facing skepticism, Gill recruits a surveyor and drilling engineer to create a borehole, signaling the miners with a flashlight. Unseen by the miners, a brick wall obstructs their path. Meanwhile, a saboteur, Sen, tries to derail the mission, suggesting a flooded shaft for rescue. Uncovering drowned miners, the mission is halted, but a dog alerts Gill that the miners are alive.
The focus shifts to Gill, who devises a capsule for rescue. Despite sabotage, manual rescues begin, but oxygen runs low. Govardhan confronts Sen, the crane is fixed, and Gill signals for rescue. Gill, the last rescued, is rewarded, and the disgraced surveyor is recognized.
