Social media users were puzzled by Chris Brown's defense and wondered if Piru is a religion. It's not, though. Piru is a street gang from Compton, California, started in 1969 by Sylvester Scott and Vincent Owens. They were the original Blood gang in Los Angeles, involved in criminal activities like drugs, theft, and murder.

Chris Brown surprised social media with his response to criticism over dancing to an apparently anti-Semitic song by Kanye West, "Vultures." He defended himself by saying he's not Muslim or Jewish but a member of the Piru gang. People started making fun of him for comparing a gang to a religion.
