Is Richard Schiff leaving The Good Doctor?
Richard Schiff has played Dr. Aaron Glassman, a skilled neurosurgeon, and mentor to Shaun Murphy, on ABC's popular medical drama, The Good Doctor, since its debut in 2017. It is said in 2022 that Dr. Glassman may be considering leaving St. Bonaventure Hospital once again, having already departed twice before - once in Season 3 to undergo treatment for his brain cancer and then again after being fired for disobeying the board's wishes to save Shaun. In Season 5, viewers saw St. Bonaventure taken over by Salen Morrison, a new boss with a different style of management that many of the doctors, including Dr. Glassman, found challenging.
Salen's tactics included timing surgeons during operations, enforcing stricter routines for doctors, and prioritizing finances over patient care, which frustrated many staff members, including Audrey Lim. Dr. Glassman was the most vocal about his disapproval of the new boss, and in Episode 2, he resigned after telling Salen that she had transformed from a fake patient to a hostile corporate leader. Despite Salen's efforts to persuade him to stay, Dr. Glassman agreed to remain on the condition that his clinic's budget be doubled, promising to show his support in return. The Season 5 finale preview showed a heartwarming moment between Shaun and Dr. Glassman, but it does not necessarily indicate that Richard Schiff will be leaving the show. Why did Aaron Glassman leave The Good Doctor?
