Is Texas Chainsaw Massacre Based On A True Story?

Fortunately, the story in Texas Chainsaw Massacre is not based on actual events, so fans can rest easy and not worry about encountering Leatherface in real life. However, the original movie and the creation of Leatherface were inspired by a few real cases, such as that of serial killer Ed Gein, who was suspected of several murders in Wisconsin in the 1950s. While both Gein and Leatherface had some similarities, such as wearing human skin masks and keeping gruesome souvenirs, Gein never used a chainsaw to kill his victims; instead, he used a pistol.

Where Did The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Happen In Real Life?

The graphic coverage of violence by San Antonio as one inspiration for the film and based elements of the plot on murderer Ed Gein, who committed his crimes in 1950s Wisconsin. A nearly identical twin of the Texas Chainsaw House was discovered in La Frontera, an area in Georgetown, Texas, and also cut into pieces and moved. The house was originally built by an early settler in Williamson County named Leonard Frisk and was later owned by Tony Burkland, a relative of the Frisk family. The house, now known as the Burkland-Frisk house, was situated across the street from the Texas Chainsaw House on Quick Hill Road but was later relocated within La Frontera. It was unrecognizable as a twin due to its run-down state and was entirely overgrown with plants and trees. In 2006, the developers of La Frontera, Don Martin, and Bill Smalling restored the house, and it now serves as an office. It sits on San Gabriel Village Boulevard and has a prominent view of the South San Gabriel River.
