Thank You for Your Service Plot

After completing a traumatic 15-month combat tour in Iraq, decorated soldier Adam Schumann returns to his home in Kansas where he is greeted by his loving wife Saskia and their two young children. However, Adam's experiences have left him struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), haunted by nightmares and frequent flashbacks. Saskia urges him to seek help from the overwhelmed Department of Veterans Affairs.

Adam finds solace in the companionship of two fellow Iraq veterans living nearby, Solo Aieti and Billy Waller. Tragically, Billy takes his own life after discovering his fiancée has stolen his money and their child.

Adam's unresolved psychological issues revolve around his guilt for not being able to save a fellow soldier, Michael Emory, during a firefight. Michael suffered a severe injury and is now paralyzed, but he expresses gratitude to Adam for being alive.

Adam also carries survivor's guilt for allowing Sergeant First Class James Doster to take his place on patrol one day, which led to Doster's death when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. Solo, who helped in their escape, struggles with severe PTSD and memory loss.
