Believe it or not, Dr. Death is based on Christopher Duntsch, a real surgeon from Texas who was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2017 after performing on 37 patients between 2011 and 2013, nearly all of them were left severely injured, and two of whom died.
According to TIME, 33 of the 37 individuals suffered injuries or injuries as a result. Following surgery, some of his victims experienced paralysis and/or chronic agony as a result of nerve injury.
