Ben and her family later encourage her to head to the closest port and end the adventure once she senses several storms coming. Jessica, however, finds a way around the storms by moving with them as opposed to attempting to weather them. Then, in an unexpected turn of events, her yacht is struck by a huge wave, submerging her 15 feet below the surface.
Then they are unable to contact her, and her family believes they have lost her. The yacht reappears as they are starting to cry, and Jessica contacts her family to let them know she is okay. After the storm passes, Jessica makes her way to the yacht's deck to enjoy the downpour and toast her accomplishment. She is fine, as her family tells the media. Jessica is halfway home, which is cause for celebration among reporters and fans everywhere.
When she finally arrives home, she is greeted by her family and a sizable crowd that has gathered to meet her. She then makes a speech in which she declares that she does not view herself as a hero and hopes that her accomplishment will encourage regular people to achieve amazing feats.
At the conclusion of True Spirit, Jessica arrived in Sidney after finishing her journey and breaking a record. People in Sydney are happy to have her back, and she gives her family warm hugs.

On February 3, 2023, Netflix began streaming the movie True Spirit. According to a July 16 Netflix announcement, the feature film True Spirit, which will be directed by Sarah Spillane, will be based on Watson's memoir.
