After watching Tribhanga, it becomes evident that Kajol's Bollywood essence remains strong, channeling her classic performance style. However, the film suffers from a disjointed execution, where the director, dialogue writers, and actors seem to be out of sync, never quite harmonizing.
Directed and written by Renuka Shahane, Tribhanga sets out with noble intentions, exploring the complexities of mother-daughter relationships across three generations. Nayantara, the acclaimed novelist (played by Tanvi Azmi), makes questionable choices in relationships, impacting her daughter Anuradha (played by Kajol) and granddaughter Masha (played by Mithila Palkar). The film delves into the consequences of their choices, seeking forgiveness and catharsis when a tragedy strikes.
While the story holds promise, the execution falters. Kajol and Tanvi's performances dominate, leaving Mithila with limited screen time. Kajol's emotive acting, though initially engaging, becomes overly dramatic and forced. Tanvi's portrayal provides a more mature balance to Kajol's intense performance.
However, the film's downfall lies in the portrayal of Kunaal Roy Kapur's character, Milan, and the clunky dialogues for the entire cast. Milan's excessively cartoonish personality and the dialogue's lack of depth hinder the impact of crucial moments, leaving the emotions damp and lifeless.
In a different world, Tribhanga could have been more impactful with significant changes. But just like Nayan's regret in the film, it can only apologize for its shortcomings.
