Is Ubisoft Plus included with Game Pass?

Philippe Tremblay, director of Ubisoft's game subscription service, Ubisoft+, recently provided more details about the company's decision to offer its service as a standalone option on Xbox, rather than bundling it with Game Pass. Tremblay believes that there is still plenty of untapped potential in the game subscription market, and Ubisoft wants to secure its place in the market.

He explained in an interview with GI.biz that "we haven't necessarily seen that this market has reached the maximum opportunity here. It's still fairly new across the board that we have subscription offers, even from Xbox or other partners out there." Despite EA bundling its EA Play subscription with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Ubisoft+ remains a separate service. No, Ubisoft Plus is a standalone subscription and is not included in Xbox Game Pass plan.

However, it is likely that Microsoft receives some kind of fee from Ubisoft for being available on their platform. Ubisoft, known for popular franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, aims to establish its presence in the game subscription market.

How much is Ubisoft Plus?

In contrast to EA Play, which can be acquired either as a standalone purchase or as part of a Game Pass subscription, Ubisoft Plus cannot be obtained through an Xbox Game Pass subscription. Ubisoft Plus requires a separate purchase and is more expensive than Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, with a monthly fee of $17.99 as opposed to Ultimate's $14.99.

For a monthly fee of $17.99, players can enroll in the subscription program on Xbox, which offers a vast game library and a 10% discount on in-game items. This subscription also includes access to PC game titles and the option of cloud streaming.

The game library features popular titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Far Cry 6, The Division 2, Riders Republic, For Honor, Rainbow Six Siege, The Crew 2, Steep, Watch Dogs: Legion, and many more. Furthermore, all new Ubisoft games are launched on the same day as their general release date as part of the Ubisoft+ subscription. The subscription can be canceled at any time.

History of Ubisoft

In the 1980s, the Guillemot family became known for supporting farmers in France's Brittany province and other areas, as well as in the United Kingdom. The five brothers, Christian, Claude, Gérard, Michel, and Yves, worked in various aspects of the family business, including sales, distribution, accounting, and management before pursuing higher education.

After acquiring business experience in college, they returned to the family business and diversified their product line to include items that would appeal to farmers, such as CD audio media, computers, and additional software, including video games. In 1984, they observed that purchasing computers and software from a French supplier was more expensive than buying from the UK and importing to France, leading to the creation of Guillemot Informatique, their first mail-order business.

Recognizing the potential for video game software as a lucrative business, the brothers established Ubi Soft (later renamed Ubi Soft Entertainment S.A.) on March 28, 1986. The name "Ubi Soft" was chosen to represent "ubiquitous" software. They had already gained insight into publication and distribution, and with increasing demand, they decided to get involved in game development.
