Wild Hearts
Wild Hearts is a thrilling action role-playing video game released on February 17, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Developed by Omega Force and published by Electronic Arts as part of its EA Originals label, the game is set in Azuma, a fantasy world drawing inspiration from feudal Japan. Players embark on an adventure to hunt down colossal monsters. The single-player and multiplayer modes add variety to the gaming experience.
Directed by Kotaro Hirata and Takuto Edagawa, with Yosuke Hayashi as the producer, Wild Hearts features captivating art by Marina Ayano and Yu Oboshi. The narrative is crafted by Yuki Ikeno and Mari Okamoto, while the musical composition is a collaborative effort by Junya Ishiguro, Masashi Hamauzu, Daisuke Shinoda, Ippo Igarashi, and Modanqing Zhu. Immerse yourself in this action-packed journey, where players face epic challenges in a beautifully designed fantasy realm.
Wild Hearts Gameplay
In Wild Hearts, players step into the shoes of an unnamed hunter on a quest to track down colossal monsters called Kemono in the fantasy realm of Azuma. While Azuma isn't an open world, it consists of several expansive areas for players to freely explore. The game offers eight diverse weapon types, including wagasa and katana. Alongside battling foes, players can use the Karakuri mechanic to craft items that aid in combat.
For instance, creating crates enables powerful attacks, and a torch can be fashioned to ignite enemies. Combining items constructs larger machines like a bulwark for blocking enemy paths. These crafted items persist until destroyed by Kemono. Players can also build Karakuri to enhance traversal, with the construction process consuming thread gained from attacking enemies.
As the game unfolds, players unlock new weapons and armor, enabling them to take on more formidable monsters. The estimated time to complete the narrative campaign is around 30 hours, and players can team up with two others to progress through the game collaboratively.
Wild Hearts Plot
In the action-packed story of Wild Hearts, players become a nameless hunter seeking refuge in Azuma, a land troubled by war and a decline in kemono hunting. After a fierce battle with an ice-wielding wolf kemono, the hunter is saved by an enigmatic figure named Mujina. Empowered with Karakuri technology, the hunter journeys to the town of Minato, discovering the ability to conjure Karakuri objects and harvest celestial threads.
Tasked with aiding Minato's prosperity, the hunter, alongside allies like blacksmith Natsume and escort Ujishige, defends the town against kemonos. Unveiling ancient Karakuri technologies with expert Surazan, the hunter faces the colossal Earthbreaker to safeguard Minato.
As celestial thread shortages spark kemono unrest, the hunter and Ujishige venture to the frozen Natsukodachi Isle, confronting Deathstalker. The duo learns of the kemonos' desperate quest for celestial threads, causing ecological chaos. Returning to Minato, Amaterasu attacks, signaling the kemonos' increasing aggression.
Mujina warns of the "Rain of a Thousand Days," urging the hunter to climb Sacred Mountain and slay the Celestial Dragon to restore celestial threads. The hunter faces the Celestial Being, triggering a Kakakuri structure that heals Azuma. In the postgame, the hunter, after quelling deeply volatile kemonos, converses with Mujina, achieving a feat no human or kemono could.
