Jesus Revolution Review
This movie provides a heartfelt and sentimental portrayal of the Jesus movement and its best aspects. As someone who is passionate about movies was thoroughly impressed by the top-notch production quality. The camera work was well executed, and the costume and scene designs were fabulous. Additionally, the script was excellent, and the acting was top-notch, which is a rarity in some "Christian" films that have been released in recent years.
Having experienced the Jesus movement firsthand between 1971 and 1973 in Riverside, California, I was able to relate to the events depicted in the film. Many people attend church services with Greg Laurie, listened to Love Song and other popular bands of the day, and purchased Calvary Chapel and Maranatha! branded merchandise. The movie successfully captures the heady and significant time that deserves a place in American religious history.
The acting was superb, and Kelsey Grammar was a perfect fit for the role of Chuck Smith. While the movie began with an accurate presentation of the time, was disappointed by certain parts in the middle and end that appeared to take "artistic" liberties with some of the events, people, and locations. The movie also avoided some of the more difficult aspects of the movement, which may have been the right choice at the time.
Despite these minor criticisms, thoroughly enjoyed the movie and felt it took me back to a significant time in my life. It serves as a valuable addition to the record and significance of the Jesus Movement in American religious history.
