Who is Takehito Koyasu?

Takehito Koyasu is a Japanese voice actor born on May 5, 1967, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. He is the founder and representative of T's Factory, a voice acting agency established in October 1998. Koyasu's son, Kōki Koyasu, is also a voice actor. Following the death of Kaneto Shiozawa, Koyasu took over many of the characters previously portrayed by Shiozawa.

Koyasu developed an interest in voice acting during his junior high school years when he watched the scene in Adieu Galaxy Express 999 where nameless soldiers send off Tetsurō Hoshino. This inspired him to pursue voice acting and strive for "three-dimensional acting." He made his voice acting debut in the anime Wowser in 1988, and his first regular role was as Gai, the King Yaksha, in Legend of Heavenly Sphere Shurato.

Although his character was a regular in the series, the role presented challenges, requiring numerous retakes for a single line. In 1990, Koyasu played the role of Minos in the OVA Aries, based on a fantasy manga. Initially, he had received the most votes in a reader's poll for the lead character, Hades. However, due to concerns about his newcomer status, the decision was made to cast him as Minos instead. Despite this, Koyasu's performance helped him gain recognition and marked a turning point in his career.

One of Koyasu's most beloved roles is that of Tekkaman Evil (Shinya Aiba) in Tekkaman Blade. He has often expressed that playing this character was a personal favorite and a pivotal moment in his career. Koyasu also worked on conceptualizing the media franchise Weiß Kreuz, forming the voice acting unit "Weiß" with Shin-ichiro Miki, Tomokazu Seki, and Hiro Yūki. He became the first male voice actor to appear on the cover of a voice acting magazine and ventured into music under the name ZAZEL.

In 1998, Koyasu established his own representative office, T's Factory, after working with Production Baobab. He is known for his motto of "making two-dimensional into three-dimensional" and enjoys writing novels and playing video games. Koyasu appeared alongside his son in an advertisement for Duel Masters in 2020 and started a radio show called "Takehito & Kōki's KOYASU RADIO." In 2021, he received the Best Actor in Supporting Role award at the 15th Seiyu Awards.

Takehito Koyasu's talent and contributions have made him a prominent figure in the voice acting industry, and he continues to captivate audiences with his diverse range of performances.
