What is NECO?

The National Examination Council (NECO) is an examination body in Nigeria that conducts the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and the General Certificate in Education in June/July and November/December, respectively. NECO was created by former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar in April 1999, who mandated it to take over the responsibilities of the National Board of Education Measurement (NBEM).

NECO is responsible for overseeing and conducting exams for various levels of education in Nigeria. The Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) is one of its main exams and is taken by Senior Secondary School students in Nigeria. The SSC exam consists of both internal and external components, with the internal exam being taken by students in schools within Nigeria, while the external exam is taken by private candidates.

Nigeria provides six years of basic education, three years of junior secondary education, three years of senior secondary education, and four years of tertiary education. The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is the main examination taken by students to qualify for admission into secondary and vocational schools in Ghana and Nigeria.

In addition to the BECE and SSCE exams, NECO is also responsible for conducting the National Common Entrance Examination. This exam is administered to pupils in their sixth year of basic education for admission into Federal Unity Colleges, which are Federal Government-owned secondary schools across Nigeria.

Junior WAEC Time Table 2023 (NECO)

The 2023 Junior West African Examinations Council (JWAEC) timetable has been officially released. This highly anticipated examination will be conducted across several West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.

According to the JWAEC timetable, the exams are scheduled to commence on Monday, 3rd July, and will continue until Friday, July 8th, 2023. This means that the examination period will span over one week, with different subjects being written on different days.

Throughout the week, candidates will be tested on a range of subjects, including Business Studies, Arabic Studies, Pre-Vocational Studies, Nigerian Languages (Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa), Mathematics, National Values, Basic Science & Technology, Christian Religious Studies/Islamic Studies, English Studies, Cultural and Creative Arts, and French Language.

It is important to note that the examination will be conducted in both morning and afternoon sessions. Morning sessions will begin promptly at 9:00 AM, while the afternoon sessions will commence at 1:00 PM.

To excel in the upcoming JWAEC exams, candidates are strongly advised to dedicate ample time to studying and prioritize their academic preparations in the months leading up to the examination.
