The story follows Mario and his friends as they fight against the Smithy Gang, who have invaded their world and scattered the seven star pieces of Star Road. The game features turn-based combat for up to three characters and is known for its isometric 3D exploration, a first for the Mario series. Kero Sewers Walkthrough

In the Kero Sewers section of Super Mario RPG, follow these steps for a walkthrough:

  • Save Block: Drop down into the sewers and find a save block. Use it if needed. There are no hidden treasures in this area, so you can explore freely.
  • Swim Across the Puddle: Enter the water and swim to the other side of the puddle. You'll come across a pipe. Go down it and then enter the next pipe at the bottom-right of the screen. Fight Cheep Cheep enemies for experience points if you wish.
  • Continue Path: Follow the path, enter the pipe on the other side of the room, and hit the box to get a Flower. Drop down to the area below and go right up the stairs. Hit another treasure box, but be prepared for a surprise battle with the Huhwhat enemy.
  • Battle the Huhwhat: The Huhwhat can be tough, inflicting Fear and dealing damage over time. It's immune to most special moves except Mario's Jump. Level up on other enemies if needed before facing it. Once defeated, you get a Flower Jar and a Trueform Pin, which makes you immune to a status condition.
  • Return to Upper Area: Backtrack through the pipes to reach the staircase where the Flower treasure box was. Scale the stairs, enter the top pipe, and find a treasure box with a Super Star. Use it to plow through rats but be cautious not to fall to the lower area.
  • Navigate Through Pipes: Take the next pipe to the left, navigate past rat enemies, and enter the next pipe. In a new room, climb stairs, press a switch to drain water, and go back through the pipe. Hop down to the now-dry area and enter the lowest pipe.
  • Prepare for Boss Fight: Equip the Trueform Pin on Mario, heal using the box, and save your progress. Note a treasure chest above a pipe that you can't reach yet.
  • Boss Fight - Belome: Enter the pipe to face the boss, Belome, a giant canine creature. Equip the Trueform Pin to make the fight easier. Refer to a separate guide for tips on defeating Belome.
  • After Belome: Belome will warn of a flood. He was standing on a switch keeping the water away. Mario and Mallow get swept away by a wave, leading to the Midas River course, a new mini-game where you collect coins.

Kero Sewers

The Kero Sewers in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars are like an underground maze with blue-coloured walls and blocks that look similar to the original Super Mario Bros. underground levels. They're situated above Midas Waterfall and are guarded by a boss named Belome. To get there, Mario and his friends go through a tunnel in Land's End, where they find various things like Cricket Jam, a star, and encounter different monsters along the way.

In another adventure called Mario and the Incredible Rescue, Mario, Luigi, and Toad use the Kero Sewers as a shortcut to reach Bowser's Keep more quickly. However, they end up in Cybele's forest and need to collect six Mushrooms. The Kero Sewers become the home of the first black Mushroom in this story, and Piranha Plants, which weren't there in the original game, now roam the sewers.

First appearing in Super Mario RPG in 1996, the Kero Sewers have recently made a comeback in 2023 with the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The sewers serve as a connecting pathway from the Pond to Pipes in the game's world, offering a mix of exploration, encounters with monsters, and connections to other parts of the Mario universe.
