Loki Season 1 Episode 1 Recap And Review

Recap

In the first episode of Loki, we see him escape from the Avengers in 2012 and end up in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. The Time Variants Authority (TVA) arrives and arrests him, claiming he is a variant who deviated from his original path. The TVA's job is to ensure that the timeline remains sacred, and they have the power to reset it. Loki is taken to the TVA headquarters, where he stands trial and questions the TVA's authority, pointing out that the Avengers also distorted the timeline by going back in time. He is found guilty, but Agent Mobius intervenes and saves his life. Mobius is tasked with tracking down dangerous Variants and shows Loki his "best hits" to convince him to help them catch another Variant who is causing trouble. Loki manages to slip away and finds the Infinity Stones in a desk worker's drawer, questioning the TVA's true power. He then sees his own death at the hands of Thanos and is told by Mobius that the variant they are tracking is actually himself. Finally, we see a hooded figure in Oklahoma City, 1858, who is likely to be Loki.

Review

The first episode of Loki seems to be of similar quality to WandaVision, unlike Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which were lacklustre and tepid. The unique concept explored in the episode is intriguing and aesthetically pleasing. While the TVA's ideas are good, they face issues when considered more deeply, particularly when dealing with time travel. Loki raises a valid point about the Avengers, as technically they should be the ones facing trial for their time-traveling actions. The butterfly effect would mean that other characters would also act differently if the Avengers were "supposed" to go back in time to stop Thanos and disrupt the timeline. The arrival of the Tesseract before Loki's feet was meant to occur during this timeline, leading up to his ending with Thanos. Additionally, who is the TVA to decide what is the sacred timeline? They would also be disrupting the timeline by jumping back and interacting with people from that time. Why do the Avengers get a free pass while Loki doesn't? All Loki did was teleport to Mongolia, while the Avengers actually rewrote history. Despite the time travel issues, Loki is a fun show, and the ending suggests that there is more wild riding to come. However, one must keep in mind that time travel in any show will always have plot holes and inconsistencies.

Loki Season 1 Episode 1 Explained

The first episode of "Loki" has been released, which sets the stage for an exciting time-traveling adventure featuring a popular character with wide appeal. "Loki" is the third Disney+ original series from Marvel Studios and follows the God of Mischief after the events of "The Avengers" (2012), as shown in "Avengers: Endgame" (2019). To understand the storyline, it is essential to know that "Endgame" involved the heroes travelling back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones, with one of these attempts leading to Loki's escape with one of the powerful stones. This version of Loki, who is the protagonist in the Disney+ series, is not the same Loki seen in later films such as "Thor: The Dark World" (2013) and "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017). The head writer of "Loki," Michael Waldron, emphasised the importance of bringing this version of the character up to speed with his character growth in the previous movies. The story involves the Time Keepers, who came into existence after a multiversal war and now protect the proper flow of time. In the comics, the Time Keepers have limitless powers over time manipulation and are willing to do whatever it takes to preserve their existence, even if it means opposing teams like the Avengers.
