Antony Matheus dos Santos, commonly known as Antony, is a talented Brazilian professional footballer who currently serves as a winger for the esteemed Premier League club Manchester United and also represents the Brazil national team.
Antony began his football journey at the São Paulo Academy, where he developed his skills and eventually made his senior debut for the club in 2018. In the summer of 2020, he ventured abroad and joined Ajax, a renowned Dutch club. During his two-season tenure at Ajax, Antony achieved remarkable success, securing two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup. His impressive performances in the Netherlands caught the attention of Manchester United.
Additionally, Antony proudly represented the Brazil under-23 team at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he earned a gold medal. Manchester Antony Injury Update
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains hopeful that Antony could recover in time to be included in the squad for the FA Cup final against Manchester City. Antony suffered an ankle injury during the match against Chelsea, following a tackle by Trevoh Chalobah, which forced him to be stretchered off in the 29th minute.
Despite arriving at Old Trafford on crutches for United's final Premier League game, ten Hag provided a positive update on Antony's condition. He stated, "While it didn't initially look good when he had to be substituted, the first assessment is relatively positive, and there is a good chance he will be available for the Cup final next week."
United had concerns that it might be a recurrence of the ankle injury that had sidelined Antony for the latter part of the previous season. Notably, he started and scored in their 6-3 defeat against Manchester City in October but was named as a substitute in the reverse fixture in January, replacing the injured Anthony Martial during halftime.
Antony had been a regular starter for United, featuring in 13 of their last 14 matches before the Fulham game. However, he was replaced by Alejandro Garnacho in the lineup for that particular match.
What Happened to Manchester Antony?
Manchester United are concerned that winger Antony may have suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury that had previously kept him out of action during the final two months of the previous season while playing for Ajax. During the match against Chelsea, Antony was taken off on a stretcher, visibly upset, following a seemingly harmless challenge.
The 23-year-old Brazilian forward had already missed the last eight games of Ajax's 2021-2022 campaign after initially sustaining an ankle injury during a World Cup qualifier for Brazil in March 2022. Since his arrival at Manchester United in September, Antony has impressively netted eight goals for the team. United's win over Chelsea secured them a spot in next season's Champions League, and now they are set to face Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3rd.
