The game's fights happen in a 3D arena with 2D movement, similar to games like Injustice and Mortal Kombat. Starting with two 1-star characters, you unlock higher-star heroes from a pool of 253.
Battles use an energy system, and you can recharge over time or manually refill. Controls are touch-based, including light, medium, and heavy attacks, blocking, and dodging. Characters level up with ISO-8 and Gold, and alliances, dungeons, and various in-game currencies add depth to the gameplay.

Marvel adapted the game into a comic series in June 2015. The franchise expanded with the 2020 spin-off, Marvel Realm of Champions, set in the same universe. However, on January 13, 2022, Realm of Champions was announced to shut down on March 31 of that year.
