Te Kā, a volcanic demon, emerged and attacked Maui, resulting in him losing both the heart and his magical fish hook in the depths of the sea.
A thousand years later, the ocean chooses Moana, the daughter of Motunui's chief Tui, to embark on a quest to restore Te Fiti's heart. Moana's parents, Tui and Sina, want her to prepare for her future role as the island's chief and discourage her from venturing beyond the reef.
