Modders are Working to Bring Back The Day Before

A group of modders is busy trying to revive The Day Before, a game that faced a shutdown. This game caused quite a stir when it launched in 2023 but was met with loads of negative feedback due to many bugs and missing features. The developers announced they would shut it down in December 2024. Now, these modders, known as Luci0 and fskartd, are on a mission to make the game playable offline. They're using their skills to bypass some technical restrictions, like the Steam DRM (that's a kind of security lock), and they've even got access to the game's assets, thanks to some clever decryption work.

They've figured out how to load parts of the game and even get a player character to appear. They can't control the character yet, so moving around isn't possible. Their plan is to make it as easy as possible for folks to start playing offline. And beyond that, they're hoping to explore the chance of setting up custom servers so that online play might be an option again. Luci0 mentioned that they're still in the early stages of development, so there's no set date for when this mod might be available. They're working hard, but it might take some time before players can dive back into The Day Before, this time in a different way.

Why The Day Before Shutting Down?

The Day Before has been in the news a lot, and there have been many controversies about the game. In a recent announcement, the company behind the game, Fntastic, revealed that The Day Before is going to be shut down, and Fntastic will stop operating. The community has discussed and debated this decision along with the other controversies. While there may be uncertainty about Fntastic's future, the plans for The Day Before coming to an end are more definite.

The Day Before

"The Day Before" was a game where players had to survive in a city full of zombies. It was made by a company called Fntastic and published by Mytona. The game was set in the future, in a place called 'New Fortune City' after it had been destroyed by an apocalypse. Players controlled a character trying to stay alive in this dangerous world.

Even before it came out, people doubted if it was real because it took a long time to make. When it finally released in December 2023, it got a lot of reviews from experts. Just four days after it came out, the game was shut down. And because it didn't sell well, the company that made it, Fntastic, had to close down too. It's sad when a game doesn't do well, especially after so much effort was put into making it. "The Day Before" faced a lot of problems and couldn't recover from the criticism it got.

The Day Before Plot

"The Day Before" unfolds in a world ravaged by a deadly pandemic that turned most people into zombies. The story begins with the player awakening in a place called New Fortune City, situated on the East Coast of the United States. This city has become a refuge for survivors, a place where people band together to rebuild what's left of society after the apocalypse.

As the player navigates this post-apocalyptic landscape, they encounter various challenges, including scarce resources, threats from both zombies and other survivors, and the constant struggle to survive. The narrative unfolds as players explore, survive, and strive to carve out a future in a world forever changed by the apocalypse.

The Day Before Gameplay

In The Day Before, you can take stuff apart and use it to change your guns. For example, you can add sights to your gun to shoot enemies from far away. You can also solve puzzles, like deactivating alarms by figuring out a code. The game is mostly about shooting with guns, but they make a lot of noise, so sometimes you might need to use melee weapons to stay quiet.

You can make your weapons special by adding things you find while exploring. The game is a big online world where you can talk to other players and trade things. There are safe areas where you can join groups called 'colonies' to help each other. But if you want all the loot for yourself, you can go solo. You can also use vehicles to get around, but be careful because they can make noise or get stuck in the mud.
