As per WJRT, while near a bridge on Gratiot Road, Robbins, and his companion, both residents of Tittabawassee Township, decided to exit their boat when it encountered engine issues and began taking in water.

MichiganLive.com reported that Robbins and his friend were en route to Coty's Landing, a bar situated along the river when the boat's motor started malfunctioning. The intention of the two individuals, as mentioned in the report, was to rendezvous with their girlfriends at the restaurant on Midland Road prior to the unfortunate incident.

On March 16, 2023, officials with the Saginaw County Dive Team located and identified the body of Nathan Robbins, a 26-year-old man who had gone missing while boating on the Tittabawassee River a month prior. The recovery effort had initially been a search for a missing person, but it turned into a body recovery mission after Robbins was presumed to have drowned in the river.
